Taxes
Increasing taxes won’t fix our problems. But it will make life harder for the people of Clark County. The government (state, local, and federal) already takes enough of our hard-earned money as it is. Insanely high property taxes increase the cost of housing, creating barriers to home ownership, and contributing to the increasing homelessness afflicting our communities. Senior citizens and those on fixed incomes will be driven from their homes if property taxes continue to increase. The government doesn’t need more tax revenue; it needs to better manage the money they already collect from us. That is why I am committed to eliminating waste in the county budget and finding ways to cut spending. I will advocate for a permanent cap on property tax increases in Clark County. We as private citizens are required to live within our means, and our government should be held to the same standard. I will always fight to hold our government accountable to us.
Affordability
Housing affordability starts with getting government out of the way so homes can actually be built. In Clark County, we can lower costs by cutting red tape, streamlining the permitting process, and reducing fees that drive prices higher. When we increase the housing supply and keep county policies focused on practical, responsible growth, we give families a real chance to find a home they can afford.
But affordability is about more than just the cost of housing. I am deeply committed to strengthening the local economy and supporting the creation of more high-quality jobs for the people of Clark County. Our goal should be to attract new businesses to Southwest Washington by advocating for a more business-friendly environment. If we reduce unnecessary regulations and provide targeted incentives for small businesses, we can foster innovation and create jobs that will sustain our community for years to come.
No Tolls! No Light Rail!
Three times, the people of Southwest Washington spoke decisively and made it known that they do not support the extension of Portland's light rail system into Vancouver. Today, there are renewed attempts to defy the will of the people and push for light rail expansion across the river. I firmly oppose this effort. Having worked in downtown Portland, I have experienced firsthand the negative impacts of Portland's failing infrastructure. I believe that extending light rail to Vancouver would serve as a conduit for Portland's escalating issues with crime and homelessness.
The most common-sense solutions to traffic and congestion problems are a third bridge. Under no circumstances will I support any project that includes outdated light rail or burdensome tolling. The imposition of tolls would disproportionately penalize citizens of Clark County who work in Oregon, adding to the millions in Oregon State taxes already paid by Clark County residents. I remain committed to ensuring that Clark County receives the infrastructure it needs without compromising the interests and values of its residents.
Prioritize Public Safety & Support Law Enforcement
I am a proud supporter of the law enforcement community and law enforcement professionals, and I will stand tall and proud on their issues as a County Councilor. As a Clark County Charter Review Commissioner, I have worked on amendments that prioritize public safety. We must support those in law enforcement so that they can do their job and keep our communities safe. The solution will never be to “defund the police.” At the county level we must ensure the Sheriff’s Office is properly funded and adequately staffed so that they can receive appropriate training and support to perform their duties.
Protect Our Constitutional Rights
I am dedicated to safeguarding the property rights that both the U.S. and State Constitutions protect, recognizing that the right to own private property is a cornerstone of a free society. I believe citizens should feel secure in their homes and possessions, free from excessive government interference or unreasonable regulations. As politicians increasingly seek to impose restrictions, I will stand firm in defending these essential rights. I am committed to protecting property rights in Clark County and ensuring that individual liberties are upheld for all.
